Aereo passeggeri si schianta in Pakistan

Un aereo passeggeri con a bordo più di centocinquanta persone si è schiantato mentre stava per approcciarsi all'atterraggio all'aeroporto di Islamabad. L'aeroplano è precipitato sotto una pioggia torrenziale sulle colline di Margalla che dominano la capitale.

Un responsabile dell'aviazione civile ha detto che c'erano difficili condizioni climatiche al momento dello schianto. C'era una pioggia torrenziale e una spessa nebbia nell'area. Immagini dalla televisione pakistana mostrano fumo salire dal posto dove l'aereo è caduto.

Il volo era partito dalla Turchia. La polizia dice che era un volo dell'Airblue per Islamabad via Karachi con più di 150 persone a bordo. La compagnia opera sia voli domestici sia per la Gran Bretagna e il Golfo.

L'aereo si è schiantato nel nord di Islamabad. Si dice che l'aereo ha perso il contatto con la torre di controllo pochi minuti prima dell'atteraggio. È partita una imponente operazione di soccorso, ma è stata rallentata dalle pessime condizioni del tempo.

Passenger plane crashes in Pakistan

A passenger plane with more than a hundred and fifty people on board has crashed as it was coming in to land at Islamabad airport. The plane came down in torrential rain in the Margalla hills overlooking the capital.

A civil aviation official has said there were difficult weather conditions at the time of the crash. There was torrential rain and heavy mist in the area. Images from Pakistani television show smoke rising from the spot where the plane came down.

The flight originated in Turkey. Police said it was an Airblue flight to Islamabad via Karachi with more than 150 people on board. The company operates flights domestically as well as to Britain and to the Gulf.
